The mission of VCU’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is to maximize philanthropic support by engaging stakeholders with our institution working in partnership with all VCU schools, programs and campuses as one development and alumni relations community and implementing the best practices and efficient strategies to achieve a comprehensive development program.

As part of DAR, the Medical Philanthropy and Alumni Relations (MPAR) team operates within a dynamic and collaborative environment that reflects the complexity of our institution. We are a highly matrixed organization, where success is driven by strategic partnerships, shared goals, mission-focus and the ability to navigate multiple reporting lines.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Corporate & Community Engagement supports the execution of corporate engagement activities, manages community-based fundraising initiatives, and advances sponsorship fulfillment across MPAR events. This role leads operational planning for the Massey Challenge, coordinates third-party events, manages cause marketing partnerships, and executes corporate outreach efforts such as lunch and learns. The Assistant Director ensures corporate partners, event committees, and community fundraisers receive high-quality support that enhances fundraising outcomes and strengthens philanthropic engagement with Massey.

 

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Engagement and Sponsorship Execution

  • Execute corporate engagement activities, outreach, follow up, and partner communication.
  • Support sponsorship deliverables for all events including acknowledgment, benefit fulfillment, and tracking.
  • Coordinate sponsorship committees including scheduling, communication, meeting preparation, and follow through.
  • Manage sponsorship coordination for Shining Knight Gala and Massey on the River.

Program Leadership: Massey Challenge & Community Events

  • Lead recruitment, coaching, and year round support for Massey Challenge teams including workplace and community groups.
  • Serve as the lead for Massey Challenge onsite execution including logistics, volunteers, and partner activation.
  • Manage third party events including planning, communication, logistics, and execution.
  • Execute corporate and community focused second party fundraising events such as Capitol Square Basketball Game and Highlands Massey Classic.

Cause Marketing, Outreach, and Learning Programs

  • Lead the development and execution of cause marketing partnerships
  • Manage corporate lunch and learn programming including scheduling, logistics, materials, and follow up.
  • Ensure partner activation is delivered through digital, social, and community channels in partnership with MPAR communications colleagues.

Event Support and Stewardship

  • Support Summer Soiree execution and community partner engagement.
  • Assist with financial tracking and budget execution for assigned programs.
  • Support sponsor deliverables and reporting needs for signature and community events.

Collaboration and Internal Coordination

  • Work closely with the Associate Director to align execution with strategic corporate engagement goals.
  • Provide support for cross departmental event needs including logistics, communication, and stewardship.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, business, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in events, fundraising, corporate engagement, or community partnership work.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule to include remote work, in-office work (at least two days per week in our downtown Richmond office), occasional evenings, weekends and early mornings at events.
  • Demonstrated experience managing volunteers, committees, or community fundraising programs.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with peer to peer fundraising, corporate sponsorship execution, or community fundraising.
  • Experience in higher education or healthcare settings.
