Position Summary:
The Laboratory Technician provides essential technical and organizational support for microbiology research and/or teaching laboratories. This role involves routine laboratory procedures, preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and adhering to safety and quality standards. The technician works closely with faculty, staff, and students to ensure efficient laboratory operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare media, reagents, and solutions using standard microbiological techniques
- Perform basic microbiological assays (e.g., bacterial culture, plating, growth monitoring)
- Maintain sterile technique and ensure proper handling of microbial cultures
- Clean, sterilize, and organize laboratory equipment and workspaces (e.g., autoclaving, glassware washing)
- Assist with sample collection, labeling, and storage
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities, protocols, and inventory
- Monitor and restock laboratory supplies; assist with ordering materials as needed
- Support ongoing research projects or teaching labs under supervision
- Ensure compliance with institutional biosafety and chemical safety regulations
- Dispose of biological and chemical waste according to established protocols
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- A degree in Biology or Microbiology (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred)
- Basic knowledge of microbiology or laboratory practices
- Familiarity with aseptic technique and microbiological methods
- Experience with common lab equipment (e.g., autoclave, incubators, pipettes)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Prior laboratory experience (academic or industry)

Salary Range: $22/hr
