Position Primary Purpose and General Duties:
The Part-Time Library Collections Specialist position reports directly to the Health Sciences Collections Librarian and works closely with the Health Sciences Collection Analyst and Stacks Coordinator. Tasks include duplicating book and journal barcodes, identifying items in need of repair or remediation, shifting books and journals, and other related duties. Requires the use of Google Sheets with some use of Alma as needed.

Ideal candidates will be able to stay focused and productive during repetitive workflows while consistently adhering to established procedures. They will also pay careful attention to details and ask clarifying questions to ensure accuracy. This position involves continuous physical activity throughout the shift and may occasionally involve lifting and moving items up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work in an environment that may include exposure to dust or mold.

This is a temporary Library Specialist 1 position through the beginning of June, with a possible extension through December 2026. It requires 20-25 hours a week between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, from Monday to Friday. This job requires onsite work within VCU Libraries, and is located on the MCV campus. Hybrid or remote work is not available for this position.

Minimum Hiring Standards:
● Comfortable with physically demanding labor for the majority of the shift, including occasional moving of
items up to 50 pounds
● Can maintain focus and efficiency even when tasks are repetitive.
● Dependable, punctual, and able to work with minimal supervision.
● Must be willing to ask questions when unsure.
● Must be able to work in an environment that may include exposure to dust or mold.

Preferred Hiring Standards:
● Experience with Google Sheets preferred but not required.

Salary Range: $15.00
