The School of Life Sciences and Sustainability at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) invites applications for a one-year faculty position in Human Anatomy beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team teaching multiple sections of Basic Human Anatomy.
Responsibilities include teaching four laboratory sections of Basic Human Anatomy each semester. This is a nine-month, non-tenure-track appointment at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications. The position is non-renewable.

The School of Life Sciences and Sustainability (SLSS), established in 2025, brings together programs in Biology, Environmental Studies, Bioinformatics, Sustainable Innovation, Outdoor Leadership, and Integrative Life Sciences. SLSS serves more than 2,400 undergraduate and 100 graduate students and includes 67 full-time faculty committed to innovative teaching, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration. We prepare students for careers in health, environmental, and life sciences through rigorous coursework and hands-on learning.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
● Graduate degree in Biology or a related field, with evidence of degree completion
● Experience teaching human anatomy, human biology, vertebrate anatomy, or related lecture and lab courses
● Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience teaching at the undergraduate level
● Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence using innovative, active and evidence-based pedagogy
● Demonstrated ability to manage multiple work priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently and cooperatively as a team member.
