The Biorepository Technician plays a vital role in supporting the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center’s mission by managing and coordinating the activities of the biorepository. The mission of the Massey is to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia as an internationally recognized institute of clinical, educational and research excellence dedicated to improving the quality of human life through prevention, control and cure of cancer. The candidate will procure, process and send out repository specimens for ongoing projects performed at Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. The candidate will report to the Operations Director and Lab Manager. The applicant will support the lab and Massey by ensuring collected research sample integrity is held to the highest standards. The Biorepository Technician is involved with the processing of biospecimens and ensures the integrity of data within the laboratory information management software (LIMS). This position serves as a liaison between researchers and the biorepository, ensuring all requests for biospecimens are appropriately vetted, tracked, and fulfilled. This role combines technical expertise, data management skills, and exceptional organizational abilities to support cutting-edge cancer research at VCU. The Tissue and Data Acquisition and Analysis Core (TDAAC) is a shared research resource within the VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center that provides specialized expertise and services in histology and pathology research. We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory/Research Technician to support core operations by performing a range of histology and pathology services. Under the supervision of the Operations Director and Laboratory Manager, the technician will support investigators by adhering to established standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality standards, and safety policies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, service-oriented research environment. Job Duties: Histopathology Services Preparation of labels for sample identification. Label cassettes and slides. Organize, gross, and load tissue into cassettes for processing and paraffin infiltration. Embed and section tissue samples. Run automated H&E stainer. Maintaining standard operating procedures and safety protocols. Customer Service Engage with core users to support and facilitate their experimental needs, including scheduling and conducting intake and sample pick-up consultations. Maintain clear and timely communication with users regarding project status, technical issues, delays, or unforeseen challenges. About the Role The Center for Biomarker Research and Precision Medicine (BPM, https://bpm.pharmacy.vcu.edu/) at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to join our team. Our research program aims to alleviate the substantial personal, familial, and societal burden of mental illness and substance use disorders by leveraging state-of-the-art molecular technologies to advance disease understanding and develop novel therapeutics. We conducted large-scale single-nucleus transcriptomic and methylation studies in human samples to investigate autism and alcohol use disorder. The successful candidate will perform statistical and bioinformatic analyses of these data, contribute to the development and optimization of analytical pipelines, and publish findings in leading scientific journals. This multidisciplinary and collaborative project involves both local and external partners. The position is initially for two years and offers excellent opportunities for publication and career development.

The Student Employment Manager fulfills an important need for VCU students and serves three primary functions: 1) developing relationships with, and supporting, employers and supervisors interested in hiring VCU students for part-time and seasonal positions on and off campus; 2) helping to prepare students interested in securing part-time or seasonal employment while attending VCU through resources and information; and 3) serving as a member of the VCU Career Services Employer and Experiential Development team, designing strategies to increase employment-related opportunities for students. Our research program aims to alleviate the substantial personal, familial, and societal burden of mental illness and substance use disorders by leveraging state-of-the-art molecular technologies to advance disease understanding and develop novel therapeutics. We conducted large-scale single-nucleus transcriptomic and methylation studies in human samples to investigate autism and alcohol use disorder. The successful candidate will perform statistical and bioinformatic analyses of these data, contribute to the development and optimization of analytical pipelines, and publish findings in leading scientific journals. This multidisciplinary and collaborative project involves both local and external partners. The position is initially for two years and offers excellent opportunities for publication and career development.
