Advertising Summary: The Department of Nurse Anesthesia is seeking a Simulation Coordinator to work in the Department's simulation lab, supporting both the Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) and the Master of Science in Cardiovascular Perfusion (MSCP) programs. This position will report to the Perfusion Program Director and the Department Chair, and will work closely with the Lead Simulation Coordinator in the lab.

Department Summary: Established in 1969, the VCU Department of Nurse Anesthesia is one of nine departments in the VCU College of Health Professions. We are located in a large, urban Carnegie Research Intensive University with more than 31,000 students.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Instructional Design Support
- Collaborate with the Lead Simulation Coordinator and faculty in designing and implementing high-fidelity simulation scenarios.
- Provide input on effective simulation-based teaching strategies and assist with developing curricula that integrate simulation technology.
Simulation Lab Operations
- Maintain simulation lab schedules and manage equipment and supplies, including maintaining high-fidelity mannequins and all other simulation equipment.
- Keep records of equipment maintenance and inventory, order necessary supplies, and ensure the lab is fully operational for all scheduled activities.
Technical Support
- Support simulation activities, including control room operations and assisting faculty during debriefing sessions.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to simulation equipment, including software, hardware, and audiovisual components.
- Ensure that all simulation systems are updated with the latest firmware and software.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Work with faculty, students, and other stakeholders in a collegial environment that includes individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences to plan, schedule, and coordinate multidisciplinary and interprofessional simulation activities.
- Participate in pre- and post-briefing sessions to optimize students' learning experience.
Strategic Contribution
- Ensure that simulation events and lab experiences align with the department's educational goals and contribute to achieving broader strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with department leadership to increase lab utilization through traditional and non-traditional partnerships.
Simulation Equipment Management
- Ensure all university fixed assets in the simulation labs are properly tagged and tracked.
- Maintain simulation equipment, performing regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs as required.
Student Oversight and Skills Practice
- Provide individual oversight and guidance to students during simulation lab experiences, ensuring that technical skills are practiced consistently with course objectives and guidelines provided by faculty.
Professional Development
- Commit to a professional development plan to achieve the Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
- Clinical knowledge and experience as an allied health professional in some capacity.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with faculty, students, and vendors effectively.
- Familiarity with simulation technology and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.
- Knowledge of standard audiovisual equipment operation and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including maintaining lab materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and work with sensitive student data.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Willingness to travel to the program’s distance education sites within Virginia.
- Ability to lift and move loads of 50 lbs or more.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in instructional design or simulation-based education.
- Familiarity with the latest trends in healthcare simulation.
- Professional healthcare licensure (LPN, EMT, etc).
Salary Range: $52,000+ (commensurate with experience)
