Department Summary:
Duties & Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities for the Treasury Specialist position include but are not limited to:
•Conducting detailed financial analysis and modeling to evaluate and allocate financial resources
•Preparing debt issuance documents, including financing plans, applicable board resolutions, and official statements
•Validating principal and interest payment requests to ensure timely and accurate payment on university debt
•Analyzing and compiling university cash receipts and disbursements to develop cash forecasts to ensure adequate funds for operating needs
•Maintaining compliance and contributing to the management of the university’s cash and investments by tracking and reporting relevant data
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business administration or equivalent experience
• Experience reviewing and analyzing financial statements
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to develop financial models, interpret financial data, and draw sound conclusions
• Excellent attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to produce accurate, high-quality work and effectively review the work of others
• Proficiency in using analytical tools and techniques and applying them effectively to financial analysis
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with shared responsibilities
• Proven ability to prioritize multiple projects, manage deadlines, and work independently
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels both within and outside the university
• Three to five years of applicable work experience in financial modeling, accounting, debt management, and investment operations
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Finance, Accounting Business Administration, or a related discipline
• Multiple years of progressive experience in higher education or a similar industry, with a focus on debt, investments, and customer service
• Knowledge of public finance, including bond financing, debt structures, and credit enhancement instruments
• Experience working at an agency of the Commonwealth in a financial analyst capacity, or equivalent
Salary Range: $77,200 – $104,100
