About this Position

The Assistant Director for Compliance & Training plays a critical role within the Office of Financial Aid and serves as a key member of the leadership team. This position ensures institutional compliance with federal, state, and university financial aid regulations while managing training initiatives and staff development. The Assistant Director also leads complex eligibility determinations and maintains quality assurance and regulatory consistency for financial aid operations impacting over 4,000 students annually.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and operational support to the Director of Financial Aid; assist with special projects as assigned.

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with Title IV, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and policies.

  • Oversee specialized aid eligibility determinations, including cases involving:

    • Homeless or at-risk student populations

    • Special/unusual circumstances

    • Dependency overrides

  • Lead resolution processes for overawards and aid eligibility issues.

  • Serve as primary liaison with the third-party servicer (Inceptia) for verification processes.

  • Monitor and coordinate Return to Title IV (R2T4) calculations and the timely return of unearned funds.

  • Supervise financial aid packaging, verification, and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) review processes.

  • Administer monthly reconciliation for the Federal Work-Study program.

  • Maintain advanced knowledge of Title IV federal regulations, Department of Education guidelines, NASFAA resources, and financial aid best practices.

  • Track and analyze regulatory changes; assist in drafting institutional responses to proposed rulemaking.

  • Support audit preparation and respond to information requests from federal, state, or university entities.

  • Ensure secure access to financial aid systems, including COD, NSLDS, CPS, FSA Partner Portal, FPS, and Ellucian Banner.

  • Develop and deliver training sessions for Financial Aid staff and campus stakeholders.

  • Partner with academic and administrative offices to shape university-wide financial aid policies and practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's
    • from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
    • At least three years of progressive experience in financial aid administration.

    • In-depth knowledge of federal Title IV regulations and compliance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's
    • In Higher Education, Public Administration, Business, or a related field.
    • Experience using Ellucian Banner or a similar student information system.

    • Proven experience in delivering staff training or managing compliance initiatives.

    • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
