About this Position

The College of Veterinary Medicine is looking for someone to join our Information Technology department.

Position Responsibilities: Provide computer support to end-users. Maintain classroom technology environment. Contribute to the proper installation, maintenance and disposal of desktop computers and printers. Update the register of IT assets and contribute to audits of IT licensing arrangements. Coordinate IT equipment bookings and maintain equipment in a suitable condition for loan. Have responsibility for the technical set up of presentation facilities and including laptops and projectors. Advise students, faculty, and staff on the use of standard IT applications. Work (under supervision) to prepare basic training materials and configure hardware and software for training purposes. Work with the procurement team to coordinate the effective and timely supply and distribution of IT consumables. Communicate effectively within the team, with other teams and across CVM as a whole. Support MS Windows, Mac OS, and Linux workstations. Support proprietary software used to control biotechnological instrumentation through hardware/software installations and upgrades and general networking and desktop support. Build working knowledge through documentation and vendor resources to support technical connections and configuration of network and video/display hardware and software settings of medical/diagnostic/research/radiographic equipment as needed to support the teaching, research, and public service functions of the CVM and veterinary teaching hospital. Perform preventative maintenance on workstations to ensure systems are performing at an optimum level; will assist in some server maintenance and support. Consult and collaborate with the CVM IT Manager on systems and application issues; make recommendations and help employ solutions for streamlining operations in the facility. Any other duties as reasonably instructed by the manager, consistent with the grade for the placement. Supervise, train, and mentor Support Specialists, Computer Technicians, and student IT workers as employees or positions exist. Oversee ticket request system and assign tickets. Monitor quality and quantity of work performed by area. Provide user support to ensure the effective and timely resolution of technical problems, keeping users informed of the status of their request for support. Document solutions to problems regarding standard IT applications and record them in the IT Knowledge Base. Ensure the highest standards of quality are achieved in all duties carried out. Oversee and maintain IT asset inventory and surplus in online inventory system. Manage CVM owned mobile devices as needed in online mobile device management server managing imaging and wiping of devices. Take responsibility for meeting individual performance targets as agreed with IT Manager. Support the culture of cross team working. Engage in a program of continuous professional development. Conduct all activities in a manner in line with CVM's vision, promoting good external relations and a positive image. Maintain and develop computer related skills. Read journals, books and whitepapers to understand new and existing technologies. Learn more about computer networks and their applications in the workplace. The incumbent must develop new professional skills and knowledge. The incumbent must utilize those new skills and knowledge by applying them to areas within CVM (technology transfer).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Computer Technology (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
    • Bachelor’s degree plus 10 years related experience or master’s degree and 8 years related experience
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

 

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Must be eligible for employment in areas governed by the U.S. Patriot Act and the Public Health and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002, 42 CFR 73, 7 CFR 331, and 9 CFR 121. Consequently, the individual hired for this position must successfully complete a Department of Justice/Federal Bureau of Investigation (DOJ/FBI) security risk assessment as well as the background check.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge: Principles and practices of leadership. Must have knowledge of current operating systems: Significant knowledge and background in Microsoft Windows based personal computer systems support in an enterprise, Microsoft Active Directory environment. Moderate knowledge and background in troubleshooting and support of apple Macintosh computer systems Desktop computer systems and peripherals. Current application software: Must have in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Basic knowledge of Moodle, Joomla, UVIS, EzyVet, and eFilm a plus. Must use discretion in handling of sensitive data including and understanding of FERPA. Maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and subordinates. Work independently with work checked at key intervals for success. Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's in related field.
