About this Position

The Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (OADDL) at Oklahoma State University's College of Veterinary Medicine invites candidates to apply for the Sr. Lab Tech position in the Serology department. This position performs various serologic tests on animal blood/serum specimens; processes animal blood samples in preparation for serologic testing; prepares reagents, standardizes new tests to be put on line, assists in maintaining various cell lines for use in testing, and assists laboratory manager in running the laboratory. Review SOPs to stay in compliance with good laboratory practices and AAVLD. Other duties as assigned.  

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background investigation.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Four years of experience in a microbiology, medical technology, veterinary diagnostic microbiology, commercial or public health laboratory. Post- secondary education may be substituted in lieu of experience.
  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Knowledge of aseptic techniques, including the handling of cell cultures for various serologic procedures. Knowledge and skills in micro pipetting techniques, handling and care of micropipettes, dilutions and micro pipetting. Ability to work in collaboration with other OADDL staff on the same case material. Ability to collaborate with other staff members and communicate with veterinarians and animal owners. Ability to think through the laboratory processes including splitting the serum samples with Virology. Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment on test procedures and interpretation of results. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel as well as use of an information management system (UVIS). Knowledge of biosafety and chemical hygiene protocols at OADDL.
