About this Position

Apply traps, baits, and insecticides for reactive and preventative pest control. Operate bed bug heat remediation equipment when required. Work directly with customers and university officials to determine the appropriate method for control. When chemicals are deemed appropriate, apply them to appropriate areas in university apartments, residential halls, general university buildings, and dining facilities. Inspect building interiors, exteriors, and adjacent grounds for insect or rodent infestations, including houseflies, termites, mosquitoes, roaches, rats, ants, and other pests as needed. Trapping, catching, or removal of small animals such as cats, birds, bats, skunks, snakes, and other animals as needed. Operate, repair, and maintain exterminating equipment. Overtime is an essential function of this position and may require work during non-business hours, which include evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays. This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally. Repetitive lifting of pesticide application pump cans and other equipment. Crawling, stooping, bending, climbing, through attics and other tight spaces. Position may be exposed to pesticides, chemical fumes, motor noise, extreme heat at times with Bed Bug equipment, and rodent and insect bites. Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, etc.). These items are not for personal use. Must work safely and promote a safe work environment. Must be able to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management, regardless of the weather conditions. Some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies. Emergencies frequently involve difficult working conditions. This may require work during non-business hours, which include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and when the University is closed. Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Exterminator I:

    One-year work experience.

    Exterminator II:

    three years of prior pest extermination experience. 

    Lead Exterminator:

    five years of prior extermination experience.

     

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Exterminator I - Lead

    A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned. Service Technician's License must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire. 

    Exterminator II - Lead:

    A 7A General Pest License must be obtained within six (6) months of hire. Ability to pass physical and fit-test and wear a full-face respirator.

    Lead Exterminator:

    7B Structural Pest Certification.

    Post-secondary may be substituted for experience; preference given to post-secondary education in extermination.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Ability to follow instructions as presented without detailed supervision.

    Ability to identify and prescribe proper pesticide chemicals and apply them to the area.

    Ability to plan needed work, order chemicals, materials, and equipment.

    Ability to become proficient in the use of the " AIM" Computerized Maintenance Management system (CMMS) software & the use of mobile technology.

    Highly developed powers of observation and good communication skills.

    This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational/Technical
  • Five years of prior pest extermination experience

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    7A General, and 7B Structural Pest certified with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture to apply restricted pesticides before hire. NWCO (Nuisance Wildlife Control Officer) Certification: A good knowledge of all campus buildings. Ability to identify and prescribe proper pesticides and apply them to the area at spray rates in accordance with labels and regulations. Ability to plan needed work, order chemicals, materials, and equipment. Ability to apply chemicals in accordance with state and federal laws. Some experience handling nuisance animals.
