About this Position

Oklahoma State University’s College of Arts and Sciences seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor of Political Science to teach sections of POLS 1113: American Government as a member of our Cowboy Concurrent Academy faculty. Cowboy Concurrent Academy faculty teach concurrent courses to talented, motivated high-school students from across the State of Oklahoma and beyond. OSU grants concurrent credit both through its Cowboy Concurrent Online and Early University in-person offerings. Occasionally, as part of their assigned workload, Academy faculty may also teach online and/or in-person courses to OSU students enrolled on its Stillwater, Tulsa, or distance campuses.

In partnership with OSU’s Division of Academic Affairs, the College of Arts and Sciences has developed, or is in the process of developing, nearly three dozen discrete concurrent courses. All concurrent courses award students general-education credit, much of which doubles as credit toward students’ high-school graduation requirements. All CAS concurrent courses must pass through a rigorous development, approval, and revision process. Meanwhile, students from across the State of Oklahoma can earn, with full tuition remission, up to 27 college credit hours while they remain enrolled in high school—up to nine hours during their junior years and 18 hours during their senior years.

Responsibilities

Cowboy Concurrent Academy faculty members teach three courses per semester. They participate actively in professional development and service to help ensure the vibrancy of CCO and EU coursework. Cowboy Concurrent Academy faculty likewise must be ready to teach online-asynchronous and in-person courses; they may also be asked to instruct online and/or in-person sections of POLS 1113: American Government to OSU students

They must be available for professional development activities that take place during the summer months as well. They will report to the respective academic unit but coordinate closely with Academic Programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

About Oklahoma State University, its College of Arts and Sciences, and its Department of Political Science

With a 130-year-long history, Oklahoma State University is one of the nation's most comprehensive land-grant university systems. OSU welcomes more than 34,000 students and 7,400 employees to its campuses in Stillwater, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Okmulgee. Exceptional strengths in the arts and humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences and mathematics are hallmarks of the College of Arts and Sciences. The college homes 23 distinct academic units and offers coursework to nearly every student who enrolls at the university. OSU also can point to major institutional strengths in engineering, agriculture, and business.

The Department of Political Science's mission is to address challenging questions of governance and societal relevance in order to broaden awareness about civic and political issues among students, colleagues, and members of the general public, in order to prepare them to act effectively in the world. The members of its faculty have developed several programs in service of these goals, including bachelor’s degree options in campaigning, global politics, pre-law, and public policy, as well as master’s degrees in Politics and Policy Studies and Peace, Conflict, and Security Studies.

Stillwater, where the college’s main offices reside, is a growing community consistently winning awards as a “best place to live,” most recently in Money Magazine. Stillwater is located about an hour’s drive from both Oklahoma City, to the south, and Tulsa, to the east.  The addition of commercial air travel, wide availability of gigabit internet, and the McKnight Center for the Performing Arts enhance Stillwater’s vibrant culture. The cost of housing is roughly 20 percent lower than the national average.
