Position Introduction:

GRIT—Growing Resilient, Innovative Thinkers is a program that provides high dosage, explicit learning and thinking
strategies to empower student athletes to feel and find success while providing an opportunity to close any possible
academic gaps. GRIT Mentors have a roster of student athletes to implement research-based strategies for thinking critically beyond basic recall and memorization in reading and math. We are looking for reading, math, writing, and study skills mentors.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Attend orientation and monthly training
  • Mentor and tutor students on a weekly basis
  • Meet weekly with the Director once a week
  • Complete daily reports for each assigned student
  • Develop, plan, prepare, and implement the strategic approach to high dosage tutoring aligned with training
  • Track, analyze, and synthesize student progress data based on high dosage tutoring model
  • Communicate with the Coordinator
  • Arrive in a timely manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • All tutoring will take place in the Prentice Gautt Academic Center.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a combination of two terms as a student at the University of Oklahoma.
  • Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

Skills:

  • Must have earned a B or higher in the specific course or have been award a degree in that area
  • Must be capable of tutoring the courses specified
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to effectively communicate material while engaging with our student-athletes in a positive manner
  • Must be willing and able to communicate and build relationships with a varied group of students and colleagues
  • Must be willing and able to gain and maintain working knowledge of university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
  • Must be willing and able to adhere to standards of conduct for Athletics Academics Tutorial Staff

Department Preferences:

  • Experience working as a tutor for undergraduate or graduate students
  • Experience working with a variety of students
  • Working knowledge of university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
