Position Introduction:

As a Learning and Engagement Student Assistant, you will help design community programs, facilitate tours, assist at the front desk, and bring the museum to life for all visitors. The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is looking for an ambitious student to assist our Learning + Engagement department. The selected candidate will report directly to the Community Engagement Coordinator and provide crucial support to the success of the museum’s strategic plan by supporting initiatives of the Learning + Engagement team.

The Learning + Engagement Assistant will coordinate both university and public tours of the museum’s galleries and exhibitions as well as assisting the Community Engagement Coordinator as needed in a wide range of facilitated experiences both on and off campus. This role will support all members of the Learning and Engagement department by assisting with the development and implementation of collaborative, engaging and innovative event-based public programs that are engaging and meaningful for all audiences.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a combination of two terms as a student at the University of Oklahoma.
  • Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
  • 10 - 20 hour per week

Duties:

  • Respond to online museum tour inquiries in a timely manner, gathering all necessary information.
  • Send visit confirmation, utilizing the visit confirmation template.
  • Input tour information to the museum Outlook calendar and communicate guided tours to the Docent Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Management of all communications in museumtours@ou.edu email and responsible for updating Tours and Programs calendar.
  • Assist Learning and Engagement members with developing supply lists, research, printing, and materials organization for programming and special events.
  • Assist with set-up and breakdown for events, classes, and programs, as needed.
  • Provide program support to assist with facilitation during events, programs, classes, and tours.
  • Check Learn and Engage spaces and interactives at least once a week to restock materials as needed.
  • Clean and sanitize shared touch materials in Learn and Engage spaces and interactive elements.
  • Communicate with Interpretation Specialist when materials need to be replaced, updated, are broken, or extra stock is running low.
  • Your line manager or Division Head may ask you to undertake additional or alternative duties.
  • Be a pro-active member of your Division, team(s) and group(s); stand in for your peers, line manager and Division Head/Director when required.
  • Be an active, creative and committed member of the Museum’s Division of Museum Experiences Team or Task Force which holds responsibility for Division of Museum Experiences.
