Position Introduction:

The National Weather Center (NWC), in partnership with the OU Police Department, is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented Security Officer to help maintain a safe and secure environment. This position plays a vital role in campus safety by conducting patrols, monitoring security systems, responding to emergencies, and providing assistance to the public. Performs as a non-commissioned uniformed security officer for the National Weather Center as part of the OU Police Department. Performs patrols of the facility and grounds, monitors security CCTV cameras, responds to fire and emergency calls. Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) by fulfilling training and reporting obligations related to campus safety protocols.

Must be a US or naturalized citizen (possess a permanent US residence card). Must be 18 years of age or older. Must pass Post Offer Employment Test (POET): be able to lift 62 pounds, push a maximum of 120 pounds, and pull a maximum of 125 pounds.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Regular exposure to disagreeable conditions, including inclement weather, odors and loud noises. Regular standing or walking. Occasionally will sit, move, bend, lift above shoulders and carry at least 62 pounds. Constantly using sight to include color, depth perception, and clarity. 
  • Environmental: Willingness to wear and maintain uniforms. Will perform shift work. Exposure to extreme weather conditions.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED. 

Required Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License to drive University vehicles on campus or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date.

Department Preferences:

  • Previous security experience.
  • CPR & first aid certifications.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Bilingual.

Hiring Contingent Upon a Background Check: Yes

Special Indications:

  • Hiring contingent upon driver's license check.
  • Hiring contingent upon Post Offer Employment Testing (POET).
