Position Introduction:
The Support Staff team member plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of Food and Shelter Inc. by assisting guests with dignity, compassion, and respect. This position provides front desk support, assists with meal preparation and kitchen operations, helps maintain laundry and shower services for day shelter guests, and supports The Share Center food pantry through stocking, inventory, and customer service. Every team member contributes to Food and Shelter's mission of providing food, homes, and hope to individuals and families experiencing hunger and homelessness.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Welcome guests and visitors in a friendly, respectful, and professional manner.
- Answer phones, assist with general clerical duties, data entry, filing, and other administrative tasks.
- Assist kitchen staff with meal preparation, serving meals, cleaning, and maintaining food safety standards.
- Help oversee laundry and shower services by organizing supplies, sanitizing areas, and ensuring facilities remain clean and stocked.
- Assist with stocking shelves, rotating inventory, organizing donations, and maintaining a clean food pantry.
- Provide courteous customer service to pantry guests during food distribution.
- Assist with receiving, sorting, and organizing donated food and household items.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized workspaces throughout the shelter and pantry.
- Support volunteers and staff with daily operations and special projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the changing needs of the organization.
This position offers valuable experience in nonprofit operations, community engagement, customer service, food assistance, and social services while making a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals and families in the Norman community.

Required Education and Experience:
- Must be currently enrolled in the Fall 2026 Term as an undergraduate student in good standing at the University of Oklahoma.
- Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in nonprofit organizations, social services, human services, or community outreach.
- Previous experience in customer service, food service, clerical support, or volunteer work.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or food insecurity is a plus.
- Inventory, warehouse, or food pantry experience preferred.
