The role of the Senior Risk Engineer Property is to provide risk engineering support to both internal and external customers.
This is a specialist role focussing on delivering technical advice to the customer relevant to the specific product or area of expertise. Handling our most complex risks, this role requires the application of technical expertise to provide advice to our largest commercial customers to a senior level (CRO, CFO etc.).
The role involves gathering and analysing information in relation to the risk, often in the form of a site inspection or desktop review and then providing a risk assessment to the target customer. The outcome is usually provided in a report that contains customer recommendations to mitigate the risk. It also includes the need to provide a clear and accurate assessment of the estimated potential for loss from any one single event. It has to detail the likely magnitude of loss that may be incurred, arising from major risk exposures for a wide variety of industrial, infrastructure and commercial risks.
Internally the role works closely with underwriting to deliver the information needed to support risk acceptance, whilst externally it involves providing best practice advice to both brokers and corporate customers, acting on a consultancy basis.
Responsibilities will include (not limited to):
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop a risk engineering service program that meets an individual customer’s risk management and insurance requirements for large and complex risks
- Provide guidance and advice to underwriters upon request in respect of risk reviews and general technical aspects of risk
- Provide industry specific technical knowledge and guidance as applicable, acting as the internal referral point / subject matter expert
- Undertake peer reviews and coaching/mentoring of junior team members to maintain a high level of technical competency and consistency with guidelines
- Advise on high hazard risks e.g. petrochemical.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- 6 Years relevant industry experience in a risk management, engineering or similar field is mandatory
- Customer facing experience at a senior level
- Ability to develop solutions and courses of action by using an information base to identify key issues, compare with other data and determine cause-effect relationships
- Comprehensive knowledge of risk assessment, risk management and basic insurance principles
- Committed to delivering a quality differentiated risk management experience to all customers
- An engineering degree is preferred
- Frequent interstate travel is required.
