About the Role

This full time role is based from our Healesville Work Centre, and works across our Warburton, Healesville and Woori Yallock sites during the fire season. Reporting to the Program Lead Delivery you will be responsible for the safe operation of a tractor slasher for the execution of grass management activities in Melbourne Water’s Closed Catchments and Land assets.

We are looking for a highly experienced operator to work amongst our idyllic landscapes, occasionally independently, or as part of a small team. This role will suit those who are self-motivated and capable of independent decision making, whilst interacting with external organisations and the general public.

Experience and qualifications in forest firefighting are highly regarded, or the willingness to achieve these qualifications. Due to the nature of this pivotal role we do require candidates to reside permanently within 25 minutes driving time of Work Centre –  Healesville, Woori Yallock or Warburton. Be available to go on a one-in-three week fire roster during the fire season requiring a 24hr a day recall to work. Please note that annual leave over the Summer fire period will be restricted

About you:

  • Experience in grass slashing, natural resource management or civil asset maintenance/project work
  • Take care of own and colleagues Health and Safety through identification and reporting of hazards and active involvement in improvement initiatives
  • Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people both within Melbourne Water, external organisations and with the general public
  • Ability to work and contribute in a team environment to improve processes, respond to various demands and manage multiple activities simultaneously
  • Ability to work in remote locations and in steep, uneven environments
  • Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations
  • Ability to use initiative and innovation in a range of tasks
  • Experience or the ability to obtain chainsaw competency
  • Criminal Records Check
