Who We Are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet, run through a backyard sprinkler, or kayak down the Yarra—we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home —just as we have for over 130 years.

If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.

About The Role

Following internal movements, we now have 10 month and 18 month full-time fixed-term contracts available.

Reporting to the Manager Service Programs Eastern Treatment Plant (ETP), this role focuses on the sewerage treatment function at the ETP and is responsible for formulating programs of work which will deliver asset and non-asset solutions for the mid to long term planning outlook.

The Senior Service Planner will approach their work through a commercial and risk management lens and will apply their engineering expertise and financial acumen to assess the costs, risks and performance of such programs.

This role ensures Melbourne Water has an optimised, fit for purpose suite of Programs to enable delivery of its services and objectives.

This will be achieved through:

  • Providing technical judgement and expertise to support the prioritisation of capital, non-asset and maintenance investment programs for the Eastern Treatment Plant, resulting in the development of business cases.
  • Interpreting Service Master Plans into Technical Objectives at a system and major asset level, including the development and maintenance of Asset Management Plans.
  • Developing program performance objectives for the Eastern Treatment Plant and collaborate with others across the business to monitor, assess and respond to Program performance.

About You

  • Experience and knowledge of service planning processes and/or asset management and planning, risk assessment and management techniques, and project and program management.
  • Strong financial acumen in the context of complex, large-scale infrastructure
  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to prioritise and perform complex professional/technical work with limited supervision and exercise professional/technical judgement.
  • Tertiary degree in relevant engineering or discipline field (e.g. process or mechanical) or experience in relatable area.

You have a solid reputation and demonstrated background of respectfully and successfully partnering with key people on projects and communicating with a variety of stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have a high level of written and verbal communication skills and can apply these in delivering complex technical information to a varied audience as you explain the program of work - the ‘why’, the ‘when’ and the ‘how.’  You will apply your communication skills to achieve your deliverables and form and maintain positive and professional working relationships.

You have exceptional resilience and influencing skills which will be utilised as you navigate complex issues, conversations, expectations and the general demands and priorities of the role.

The successful candidate will be based at our head office in Docklands with occasional travel required to our Eastern Treatment Plant site, once every one to two weeks, therefore your flexibility is required to work at these locations when required. Formal Project Management qualifications will be looked upon favourably.

You will be amazed by the size and complexity of the ETP and really impressed with the advanced treatment process.  It really is a dynamic and interesting environment. There is nothing like it in Melbourne. Come and be part of one of the main teams that helps Melbourne be one of the most liveable cities in the world.
