About the Role

Reporting to the Water Operations Centre Lead, this is a pivotal role within the Network Operations team.

The Water Control Centre Team provides a central point of contact and control for the bulk water supply transfer network. The team are required to work autonomously in a technical environment with advanced computer skills to manage, regulate and control the water transfer system to meet customer service levels.

As the Water Operations Centre Operator you will be responsible for continuous monitoring, control and regulation of the water supply system. The team provide extensive daily stakeholder liaison, internal and external, corporate reporting and initial incident and emergency response.  Decisions and actions taken by the team have potential to impact water supply to any area of the network.

The Water Control Room is currently staffed from 07:30 am to 17:00 pm Monday to Sunday as per a weekly roster, and you will be required to work one weekend in every five.

About you:

  • Expertise in the use of SCADA systems for monitoring and control
  • Significant understanding of water treatment and transfer system and its principles of operation or similar experience of network management and reporting.
  • Excellent skills in word processing, spreadsheet, database applications, SCADA and GIS systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team and contribute fully to achieving team goals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of water supply and hydraulic principles or similar process and network knowledge
  • Proven experience in dealing with a diverse range of functions at an operational level.
  • Excellent customer services skills and ability to communicate clearly
  • Demonstrated experience in water supply network treatment, control room environment or similar.
  • Valid Victorian Driver’s License
  • Ability to pass a Police check and AusCheck

The Security of Critical Infrastructure (SoCI) Act 2018 requires Melbourne Water, as an operator of critical infrastructure, to prepare a Critical Infrastructure Risk Management Program (CIRMP), which has been undertaken and managed by the Security and Emergency Management Team.

Melbourne Water are required to assess roles across Melbourne Water to determine what roles are critical under the Act. All employees working in a role deemed SOCI critical will require additional background checks via AusCheck.  This role is deemed critical, and the preferred applicant will be asked to undertake an AusCheck.
