Who we are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, and our catchments. We care for water, life, and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet, or kayak down the Yarra we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.

About the Role

Join us as a Senior Safety Advisor and make a real impact—working side-by-side with operational teams and contractors to strengthen safe behaviours, lift performance, and deliver practical safety improvements where it matters most. You’ll be a visible, trusted safety partner in the field, providing pragmatic, risk-based advice to leaders and teams, supporting high-risk activities and incident investigations, and helping embed a strong, proactive safety culture across Melbourne Water’s operational portfolios (excluding Major Capital Delivery). This is a hands-on role where you’ll build capability, drive continual improvement, and help ensure compliance—creating safer outcomes for our people, customers, and community.

  • Lead hazard identification and safety improvements across allocated portfolios, ensuring hazards are reported and acted on.
  • Provide expert, practical safety and culture advice to leaders and teams (risk management, compliance/assurance, safe behaviours, procedures, and safety culture.)
  • Be a visible field-based “go-to” safety partner, representing the safety leadership team on-site and supporting frontline decision-making.
  • Manage complex safety matters including case management, support for high-risk activities, and incident investigations through on-site involvement.
  • Drive compliance and continuous improvement by supporting regulatory compliance, reviewing MW safety procedures, and using data/field intelligence to identify trends and priorities.

  • Able to build capability in leaders, influence safe behaviours, and facilitate safety training and operational conversations credibly.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management, sound problem-solving/decision making,
