Who we are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, and our catchments. We care for water, life, and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet, or kayak down the Yarra we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.

About the Role

This is a high-impact leadership role for an experienced communications professional who can shape, lead and deliver Melbourne Water’s enterprise-wide communications approach. As Manager Communications, you will lead a team responsible for creating a clear and consistent “one Melbourne Water story” across internal and external channels, helping strengthen employee engagement, community trust and organisational reputation.

You will work closely with senior leaders and the Executive Leadership Team to translate strategy into clear, meaningful communications that connect people to Melbourne Water’s purpose, priorities and the important role we play in the community.  The role will suit someone who enjoys operating at both a strategic and hands-on level — setting direction, influencing stakeholders, leading campaigns, improving channels and ensuring communications are targeted, engaging and effective.

  • Lead the development and delivery of an integrated communications strategy across internal and external channels.
  • Oversee delivery of enterprise communications plans, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy and Education priorities.
  • Partner with Executive Leadership Team and senior stakeholders to communicate strategic direction and business priorities.
  • Lead communications support for major programs, partnerships, and campaigns to strengthen brand and reputation.
  • Manage and optimise communications channels, content and governance, ensuring effectiveness and reach across audiences.
  • Translate organisational strategy into clear communications that drive performance, engagement, and customer outcomes.
  • Providing leadership to ensure the safety and well-being department has the culture and capability to achieve high performance.

You will be comfortable navigating a complex organisation, bringing clarity to ambiguity, and leading a team to deliver high-quality outcomes that support brand, reputation, culture and engagement.

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, business or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in communications, media or engagement leadership
  • Proven experience delivering integrated internal and external communications strategies.
