Who We Are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet, run through a backyard sprinkler, or kayak down the Yarra, we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.

If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.

About the role

Work close to home in this ongoing role, stay connected to your community and help look after the drainage network that supports the Koo Wee Rup and Longwarry regions.

We’re looking for a passionate and practical Drainage Coordinator with experience in drainage, waterways, land management or conservation who enjoys working directly with customers and the local community.

You’ll help oversee the performance of the district’s flood protection drainage network, identifying emerging issues, coordinating maintenance and improvement activities, and working with landholders and delivery teams to achieve practical, risk-based outcomes.

As Drainage Coordinator, you’ll be an important point of community contact, working closely with customers and stakeholders on local drainage matters.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Work closely with customers and the local community, building positive and trusted relationships
  • Monitor the condition and performance of the district drainage network and identify emerging issues and priorities.
  • Coordinate and prioritise drainage inspection, maintenance and improvement activities, working with delivery teams and contractors.
  • Spend time both in the office and out in the field, giving you variety in your working week
  • Apply your knowledge of drainage, waterways, land management and conservation to practical on-ground decisions.
  • Respond to customer enquiries and work directly with landholders to resolve complex drainage issues
  • Support flood preparedness and participate in operational and emergency response when required.
  • Balance flood protection and drainage requirements with environmental and land management outcomes.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about the local area and enjoys working with people as much as they enjoy getting out into the field.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • An understanding of land drainage, waterways, land management or conservation
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Confidence dealing directly with community members and customers
  • A practical approach to problem solving
  • The ability to build constructive relationships with a broad range of people
  • Confidence working independently in the field as well as collaboratively in an office environment
  • A willingness to respond to emergency situations when required

Why this role?

If you’re looking for an opportunity to work in and around Koo Wee Rup and Longwarry, work close to home and make a tangible difference in the local community, this could be a great opportunity.

You’ll enjoy a genuine mix of people, community contact, field work and office-based coordination, with the chance to use your knowledge of drainage and conservation in a practical way.

If you’re passionate about your local environment, enjoy working with customers and want a role that gets you out from behind the desk, we’d love to hear from you.

This position is a Level 6, the starting salary package is $122,486. View PD here; Download File Drainage Coordinator.pdf
