HumeLink West Project

Two CIMIC Group companies, UGL and CPB Contractors have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the 130km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project.

HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project which will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby in regional NSW that will significantly increase the capacity of the electricity network in Australia’s eastern states. HumeLink is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure projects, with about 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and a range of other new and upgraded infrastructure.

The HumeLink West scope of works, worth $1.4bn, includes delivery of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines spanning 130kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai and a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.  

The opportunity

Reporting to a Project Manager, the Project Engineer will manage and provide direction to the team to deliver the project in accordance with the specified requirements.

Please note this role will initially be based in Sydney (CBD), with transition into a site delivery role requiring DIDO/FIFO or relocation where additional allowances will apply.   

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage the effective set-up, delivery and completion of the project including establishing relevant systems
  • Prepares scope of works based on logistics, permits, agreements, quantities, etc.
  • Manage and monitor the completion of the project to ensure program, budget, quality, environmental and contractual obligations are achieved and take prompt corrective action where required
  • Review design and construction plans, schedules, temporary works designs, method statements and job safety analysis and quality
  • Monitor project progress against the program and budget
  • Prepare accurate project reports and provide reporting on project risks and opportunities
  • Effectively assigning tasks to project team members to deliver the required outputs to agreed specifications
  • Ensure the project is adequately resourced to deliver project requirements within the program and contractual agreements
  • Assist with negotiations of the purchasing and engagement of suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Monitor KPIs and productivity analysis against program and budget

About You

To be successful you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Experience as a Project Engineer on a large-scale civil project
  • Demonstrated commercial experience to include planning up to 3 months ahead, weekly reporting on progress against plan and cost, reporting on risk 
  • Exposure to procurement processes including the development of tender packages
  • Demonstrated ability in financial management and reporting, including budgeting.
  • Strong attitude and awareness of Safety
  • High level verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organising skills; and negotiation and influencing skills
  • A problem solver and strategic thinker

 

The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card or equivalent) and undergo a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) prior to commencement.

Where applicable, evidence of tertiary qualifications and proof of right to work will be required prior to successful appointment.
