The Opportunity

The team currently has an opportunity for a Senior Payroll Accountant to assist the incumbent Senior Payroll Accountant with the roles and responsibilities of the Payroll Accounting function.

Reporting to the Senior Payroll Accountant, your role will include but not limited to the following:

  • Payroll reconciliations – Preparation/Review of payroll, clearing and employee provision balance sheet account reconciliations within Blackline reconciliation software, with satisfactory resolution of discrepancies and issues.
  • Payroll reports – Download and generate all payroll costing and employee leave liability reports as required for comparison with G/L data.
  • Payroll Services – Develop positive working relationships with Payroll Services team to ensure resolution of any issues on a timely basis.
  • Business Unit support – Become key point of contact for Business Unit Finance staff to ensure timely provision of information and satisfactory resolution of business issues.
  • Maintenance of costing workbook – Maintain and update the Preceda costing workbook to ensure accurate costing of all payroll-related G/L transactions.
  • Maintain cashbook – Update the payroll cashbook for all entities on a daily basis, ensuring all transactions are coded to the G/L on a timely basis.
  • Journal processing – Preparation/Review and posting of payroll accounting journals.
  • Suspense account – Review and reconcile payroll suspense account on a weekly basis to clear items and rectify any underlying issues.
  • Payroll Tax – Assist Senior Payroll Accountant with Payroll Tax reporting as required.
  • Staff supervision – Oversight of offshore Payroll Accountant to maintain high standard of work and completion of tasks on a timely basis.
  • Financial Reporting – Assist Senior Payroll Accountant with monthly financial reporting requirements as required.
  • Audit support – Assist Senior Payroll Accountant with audit queries as required.
  • Ad-hoc – Perform ad-hoc duties to assist Senior Payroll Accountant and Group Financial Controller.

Our minimum requirements for this role are:

To be successful in this role the candidate will have the following skills, and experience and demonstrate the below competencies:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Senior Payroll Accounting role
  • Strong understanding of relevant payroll laws and regulations (including ATO requirements)
  • A self-starter with a challenging mindset and desire for improvement
  • Strong attention to detail, yet ability to see the big picture
  • Adaptability to new accounting systems and processes
  • High level of competency in using Microsoft Office tools (esp. Excel), with ability to identify efficiencies and automation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Working knowledge of JDE and/or Preceda is an advantage (but not essential)
