About North East Link

The Spark Consortium has been selected for the Central Package of the North East Link Project - Victoria's biggest road project.

The Spark Consortium’s Design and Construction Contractor - which comprises Webuild, CPB Contractors, GS Engineering and Construction and China Construction Oceania - will deliver the twin three-lane tunnels and key interchanges for the project.

The Central Package will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership and provides three-lane twin tunnels that will close the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network from the M80 Ring Road to an upgraded Eastern Freeway, reducing journey times and diverting heavy vehicles away from local roads. Up to 135,000 vehicles will use North East Link every day, reducing congestion in the north-east while maintaining local roads.

About the Opportunity

As part of the landmark infrastructure initiative, the Spark Consortium is seeking an experienced Project Manager specializing in Tunnel Wet Fire and Sump Systems for the Central Package of the North East Link Project - Victoria's largest and most ambitious road construction venture to date.

This role focuses on overseeing implementation of fire suppression systems including deluge systems, combined mains, hydrants and booster pump stations within the project's scope. The role will also see delivery of tunnel sumps and water treatment systems.  The successful candidate will ensure that these critical systems are integrated seamlessly into the twin three-lane tunnels and key interchanges, enhancing safety and operational efficiency across the board.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic planning, execution, commissioning and oversight of the tunnel hydraulic systems including wet fire and systems and low point sumps, ensuring alignment with overall objectives and deadlines.
  • Effectively lead a diverse delivery team of technical and site resources, fostering a high performance culture that is inclusive and collaborative.
  • Direct all phases of the wet fire and sump systems from delivery through to commissioning and successful handover.
  • Effectively manage all financial, commercial, quality, compliance and schedule aspects of tunnel hydraulic systems.
  • Actively adopt and foster digital delivery methods being implemented by the project.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and operational teams to integrate wet fire and sump systems seamlessly into project infrastructure.
  • Effectively manage vendor and contractor relationships, ensuring the delivery of high-quality materials and services within budgetary and time constraints.
  • Uphold stringent compliance with relevant project standards, plans, and best practices.
  • Continuously assess system performance, advocating for and implementing improvements to meet evolving safety standards and project needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in managing tunnel wet fire and hydraulic systems, including a proven track record in large-scale project delivery.
  • Deep understanding of relevant Australian Standards and best practices pertaining to wet fire and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with a history of leading multidisciplinary teams to success.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • A problem-solver mindset with a proven ability to innovate and enhance system designs and processes.
