Suburban Connect is a consortium of global leaders in tunnelling, comprising CPB Contractors, Ghella, and Acciona Construction. Together, we are delivering the southern section of tunnels for Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East – 16km of twin tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley, which will be Victoria’s longest transport tunnel. This project is being delivered on behalf of the Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA).

 

SRL East, spanning from Cheltenham to Box Hill, is now being constructed. Tunnelling is set to commence in 2026, with trains expected to begin running by 2035. The works include 55 cross passages, two tunnel portal structures, two station box excavations, and various associated support tasks.

 

Primary Purpose of the Position

To lead  geospatial analysis, data management, and digital integration initiatives across the Suburban Connect project, providing specialist GIS expertise to enable informed decision‑making, enhance engineering workflows, and optimise project-wide information delivery and governance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the development, curation, and governance of project-wide GIS datasets, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and compliance
  • Develop advanced spatial analysis outputs, visualisations, dashboards, and decision‑support tools
  • Oversee the integration of GIS with engineering design, survey, BIM, and construction systems
  • Drive automation initiatives to streamline workflows and optimise spatial data processes
  • Establish spatial data quality standards and ensure adherence across project teams
  • Provide specialist technical advice to engineering managers, design teams, and project leadership
  • Mentor junior GIS resources and uplift spatial capability across the organisation

Digital Engineering & Innovation

  • Collaborate with BIM and Digital Engineering teams to enhance model‑based delivery and spatial data interoperability
  • Lead investigations into new GIS technologies, mobile data capture solutions, analytics capabilities, and digital tools
  • Promote innovative spatial solutions that support safety, efficiency, sustainability, and stakeholder transparency

 

Experience, Skills and Competencies

 

  • 5 years’ relevant postgraduate experience working as a GIS Analyst.
  • Previous experience in Civil, Mining, Services and Process engineering projects would be highly considered.
  • Ability to deliver consistently and reliably.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Desktop software.
  • Demonstrated good technical skills in using a wide range of spatial applications and tools including preferably: GIS applications, Survey Applications and Remote Sensing Applications.
  • Experience in working for a wide range of clients.
