The Project:

The purpose of the TasWater Capital Delivery Office (CDO) is to ensure cost-effective and timely delivery of quality capital works projects for TasWater that will meet the needs of TasWater’s business, their stakeholders and the communities of Tasmania for years to come. The TasWater CDO manages the TasWater Capital Works Program from inception to completion including the planning, design, procurement, and delivery phases.

About the role:

Senior Project Engineer is responsible for providing engineering and coordination for the design, supply, installation and testing of TasWater Capital Delivery Office Projects. The primary challenge of this position is to ensure the projects are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner to meet contractual arrangements made with the client.

The Senior Project Engineer-Civil will be accountable for but not limited to:

  • Support the Project Manager in ensuring compliance with documentation requirements under the CDO/UGL Management System.
  • Develop construction methodologies and lead the technical execution of project works.
  • Coordinate with Site Engineers, Project Engineers, and Supervisors to ensure the safe and effective technical delivery of the project.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for subcontractors and suppliers, escalating issues to the Project Manager to mitigate project delays.
  • Manage assigned procurement packages as directed.
  • Administer and oversee contracts for designated work packages.
  • Provide timely engineering guidance and technical support to subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Oversee project engineering activities within assigned disciplines, proactively addressing technical challenges and driving effective solutions.

Our minimum requirements for this role is:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, preferably Civil Engineering.
  • Significant experience within the civil engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in subcontractor management, with the ability to lead and deliver key projects successfully.
  • Working knowledge of AS9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Proven experience in the design, fabrication, installation, and management of pipework, valves, and inline equipment.
  • Experience directly managing suppliers and contractors on-site to achieve project objectives, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Strong understanding and application of AS4087 and AS4041 standards, particularly relating to metallic flanges for waterworks and pressure piping systems.
  •  Excellent planning, organisation, and project coordination skills.
