The Project
CPB Contractors is delivering Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail, a large rail and infrastructure project as part of building Queensland’s future. This project will play an important role ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games while delivering improvements for everyday Queenslanders by providing more frequent and reliable services around Southeast Queensland.
The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail (LGC) Project will double the number of rail tracks and upgrade stations for a section of the Gold Coast Line from Kuraby, a suburb approximately 16km south of Brisbane’s CBD, to Beenleigh, a suburb of Logan City.
Key elements of the project scope include:
- Approximately 20km of upgraded rail corridor between Kuraby and Beenleigh stations, increasing the corridor from two to four tracks, including reconstruction of more than half the existing alignment and new rail systems
- Significant civil works for the upgraded rail corridor including new bridges, earthworks, drainage and retaining structures
- Station upgrades to improve accessibility, safety and amenity, including platform straightening, and new pedestrian bridges
- Decommissioning of the existing Loganlea Station and tie-in of new track alignment to the new Loganlea station (which will be constructed as part of a separate project)
- Level crossing removals at Kuraby, Woodridge, Bethania and Holmview
- Park 'n' ride upgrades including a new carpark at Beenleigh Station
- Readiness for a European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 signalling system
The Role
The Senior Project Engineer role has a key responsibility to provide on-site engineering leadership to assist in the achievement of the required objectives of the project. This role is required to effectively coordinate design, procurement and construction elements to successfully deliver the rail corridor civil works in an area of the project. The position not only ensures technical compliance and project milestones are achieved but is also a key contributor to fostering teamwork, upholding safety standards and ensuring high-quality outcomes that meet client expectations.
What You’ll Do
- Manage the teams SCAS ‘T minus’ submissions and briefing meeting to assist with coordination of SCAS applications and readiness for delivery.
- Ensure submissions are made on time and in a high-quality standard of submission.
- Review designs and provide constructability advice and feedback
- Plan and develop scope packaging and subcontractor procurement
- Manage a team overseeing the on-site delivery of the works with responsibility for safety, cost, program, quality and compliance to project requirements
- Manage the team’s monthly cost forecasting including accruals, quantity take-offs, forecasting and reporting to ensure the project’s financial position is understood, and risks are clearly articulated to the Construction Manager.
- Develop and maintain a detailed program of the works to ensure delivery of the project achieves the required project milestones.
- Provide coaching and create training opportunities to foster professional growth while ensuring the team remains aligned with project objectives
- Interact with, and build strong relationships with site employees to ensure the project is delivered on time
- Consistently champion a culture of safety that prioritises the mentality of everyone safe, everyday
- Actively liaise with the client and independent certifier to ensure they are kept up to date and their ongoing satisfaction throughout the delivery of the project
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Relevant Rail Industry Worker competencies and inductions.
- Minimum 7 years relevant experience in rail and rail projects
- A demonstrated ability to manage self and others to deliver work to between $10M and $50M
- Development methodologies and works packs to ensure compliance with scope of works and technical criteria (within discipline)
- Demonstrated commercial experience to include planning up to 3 months ahead, weekly reporting on progress against plan and cost, reporting on risk and developing and implementing risk treatment plans
- Exceptional background in the development of SHEQ process and procedures and management of others in conducting SHEQ process and procedures
- Strong experience managing the short- and long-term construction planning for works under control including submittals, start-up planning and programming
- Proficiency in cost estimation and budget management
