CPB Contractors is Australia’s leading contractor and the largest infrastructure construction company in our region. Part of the CIMIC Group, we are proud to be constructing Australia’s future and do so collaboratively with our partners and clients.

We hire for careers, not project life. CPB Contractors has more than 50 major infrastructure projects in delivery, across all key sectors of the construction industry, including roads and bridges, rail, tunnelling, defence, airports, buildings and resources, providing you with career opportunities for years to come.

The Project

CPB is working on a major infrastructure project in regional Queensland, involving the construction and delivery of a large scale, highly technical facility.  We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Industrial Relations Advisor to join our project delivery team, working on a complex, fast paced construction environment.

The role will initially be based in Brisbane before moving onsite based in regional Queensland so we are seeking candidates who are open to a FIFO arrangement from interstate locations or can be based in Brisbane with frequent site travel. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working a 15:6 roster, supporting project requirements.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Industrial Relations Advisor to support the successful delivery of a major infrastructure project. Working closely with project leadership, site teams and the broader People & Culture function, you will provide specialist industrial relations advice, manage workplace relations matters and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industrial instruments and project requirements. This is an opportunity to contribute to a major project while supporting positive workforce relations and effective engagement with employees, subcontractors and relevant stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on industrial relations matters, including interpretation and application of enterprise agreements, modern awards, employment legislation and workplace policies.
  • Support the management of employee and industrial relations issues, including grievances, disputes, disciplinary matters and workplace investigations.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with project leadership, site management, employees, unions and other relevant stakeholders to support productive workplace relations.
  • Monitor industrial relations risks and trends, providing advice on workforce issues, union engagement, industrial action and strategies to minimise disruption to project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with industrial relations obligations and project requirements, maintaining accurate documentation, preparing reports and supporting the implementation of IR policies and procedures.

Our minimum requirements for this role are:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Law or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in an Industrial Relations Advisor or similar role, ideally within major infrastructure, construction, engineering or another project-based environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian industrial relations legislation, enterprise agreements, modern awards, union engagement and dispute resolution processes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide practical advice and manage sensitive workplace matters in a fast-paced project environment.

We particularly welcome and encourage applications from Indigenous Peoples, women, the LGBTQ+ community, mature workers, Veterans and active-duty armed forces, people with disabilities and people from different cultural backgrounds. CPB Contractors is proud to hold the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Citation - Employer of Choice for Gender Equality.

We’re always looking for ways to make CPB Contractors a more rewarding place to work and offer a unique set of benefits, including:

  • A rewarding career where we support your development, training and promote from within.
  • Opportunities across all construction sectors so that there is always an opportunity suitable for the next stage in your career.
  • Competitive remuneration and excellent benefits including a health and wellbeing program, discount portal and company-funded salary continuance insurance.
  • Flexible work arrangements and a culture that values diversity and innovation.

Please note: This role is being sourced through CPB Contractors directly and we will not accept applications via external recruitment agencies.
