About the role:
Reporting directly to the Head of Coal Customers, the Customer Account Executive plays a pivotal role in driving strategic, commercial, and operational outcomes across a portfolio of Aurizon’s top tiered customers. In this position, you will contribute to shaping and executing Aurizon’s customer strategy, ensuring strong partnerships and delivering exceptional value.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all operational activities in accordance with the relevant safety, legislative & enterprise standards
- Build, maintain and enhance strategic customer relationships
- Manage and monitor contract performance to meet or exceed revenue budgets
- Develop systems and reporting to ensure contractual compliance and yield maximisation
- Develop, maintain, and execute account management plans and engagement strategies
- Proactive communication with customers across commercial and operational interfaces
- Develop and execute strategies for contract renewals; negotiate all contractual variations
- Devise strategies to identify and deliver growth from existing accounts
- Identify and lead continuous improvement projects with customers
- Connect to the rail haulage market for competitive intelligence and market strategy
- Promote the “First Choice” strategy by advocating for the customer across the business
- Provide leadership and direction to a team of Customer Account Managers
- Actively contribute as a member of the Coal Customer Senior Leadership team, influencing strategic decisions and driving organisational priorities

- Extensive negotiation experience with the ability to influence diverse work groups
- Effective business acumen, leadership, and strategic thinking skills
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to optimise business processes
- Knowledge of statutory requirements and policy guidelines relative to operations
- Highly resilient with the ability to thrive under pressure and handle competing demands
- Action-orientated with a readiness to challenge the status quo
- Customer and externally orientated, with a talent for innovative customer solutions
- Comfortable with demanding revenue targets and motivated by achieving results
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to influence, collaborate and engage effectively
- Extensive experience in commercial roles relevant to the coal supply-chain
- Proven negotiation skills, high level of financial literacy with clear commercial acumen
- Advanced contract skills, with an ability to provide clear instruction to legal specialists
- Advanced understanding of statistics and excellent analytical skills
