The Opportunity

Lead and innovate in the world of academic research support. At Monash University we are seeking a dynamic Manager, Library Services (Research) to provide strategic leadership and drive impactful research services.

In this position you will:

  • Lead academic Library services supporting Monash University researchers in areas such as open research, research data management, and scholarly communication.
  • Manage and collaborate with Academic Services Leads and Librarians to deliver expert advice, training, and support.
  • Develop strategic partnerships to enhance the quality and impact of research services.
  • Work with senior leadership to scope and prioritize programs and projects.

Your primary responsibilities are to:

  • Provide strategic leadership in planning, delivering, and evaluating research services and programs.
  • Lead and develop agile teams to deliver key services, projects, and programs.
  • Manage staff resources, performance, and professional development.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with research partners and support areas.
  • Participate in service design activities and collaborate on library-wide projects.
  • Contribute to the overall planning and evaluation of research programs.
  • Foster an environment of trust, open communication, and creative thinking.
  • Drive continuous improvement of services, programs, and resources.
  • Lead significant strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Engage with professional groups to ensure library initiatives align with global trends.

Success in this role will require:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Librarianship or a relevant discipline, or extensive management experience.
  • A deep understanding of the research lifecycle and tertiary research landscape.
  • Your proven ability to lead and motivate high-performing agile teams.
  • Strong relationship management skills with key partners and senior academic staff.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, innovation, and change management abilities.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills.
