The Opportunity
The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Weather of the 21st Century, a federally-funded consortium led by Monash University in collaboration with other top Australian universities, is focused on understanding how climate change is reshaping Australia’s weather. The Centre provides a dynamic environment for researchers, students, and staff to grow their careers and contribute to evidence-based decision-making for future weather challenges.
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join our team and conduct collaborative research on weather resources critical for renewable energy and agriculture, such as wind, solar radiation, and precipitation. This position offers an opportunity to work with the Bureau of Meteorology, applying advanced analysis and programming skills to operational weather data for forecasting at various time scales.
Key responsibilities include independent and team-based research, contributing to publications, attending conferences, developing research materials, and occasional teaching. The Research Fellow will also design experiments, operate advanced research equipment, and participate in meetings and committees.
To succeed in this role, the appointee must have a doctoral qualification in meteorology or a related field, strong analytical, manuscript preparation, and problem-solving skills. They should be well-organized, able to prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, university software, and analyzing large meteorological datasets is essential.
