The Opportunity

Lead Innovation at the Edge – Shape the Future of Rail Technology

Join the Institute of Railway Technology (IRT) and lead the development of advanced condition monitoring solutions for the rail industry. As Senior Engineer – Embedded Sensor Edge Computing, you’ll work on cutting-edge projects involving sensor technologies such as accelerometers, acoustic sensors, and imaging systems.

This role combines hardware and software development with advanced signal processing, machine learning, and image analysis to deliver high-performance, real-time monitoring solutions. You’ll engage with clients, manage technical deliverables, and contribute to national and international rail projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver embedded edge computing solutions for rail condition monitoring.
  • Design hardware/software systems across diverse sensor technologies.
  • Apply advanced analytics, including AI and image processing.
  • Collaborate with industry clients and attend site visits as required.

This professional (non-academic) role requires strong technical expertise, independence, and the ability to work closely with both internal teams and external partners.
