Within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, the nation’s largest health faculty, the Sub-Faculty of Translational Medicine and Public Health plays a pivotal role in bridging scientific discovery and clinical application. Located at The Alfred Precinct in Melbourne, the Sub-Faculty integrates research, teaching and patient care, and encompasses both the School of Translational Medicine and the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Role Overview

This dual appointment represents an exceptional leadership opportunity to shape both the academic and clinical research agendas at scale.

  • As Dean, Sub-Faculty of Translational Medicine and Public Health (Monash University), you will provide visionary leadership to one of the largest and most influential sub-faculties within the University. You will define and deliver the strategic direction of research, education and engagement, fostering a culture of excellence in teaching, scholarship and interdisciplinary collaboration. You will play a pivotal role in cultivating partnerships with government, industry and the broader health sector to expand the Sub-Faculty’s reach and impact.
  • As Director of Research (Alfred Health), you will oversee the health service’s research strategy, ensuring robust governance, research integrity, and innovation across the Alfred Research Alliance. You will advise the Chief Executive on research priorities, manage compliance and ethics frameworks, and facilitate collaborations that maximise clinical and translational research outcomes. You will represent Alfred Health at senior levels, positioning the organisation at the forefront of global research partnerships and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Dean, Sub-Faculty of Translational Medicine and Public Health

  • Provide strategic leadership, ensuring alignment with Monash University’s strategic plan, Impact 2030.
  • Lead and inspire a diverse community of academics, students and professional staff.
  • Drive growth in student enrolments, research funding and industry engagement.
  • Foster a high-performance, inclusive and psychologically safe culture.
  • Cultivate national and international partnerships that expand the Sub-Faculty’s reputation and impact.
  • Ensure financial sustainability and operational effectiveness.

Director of Research, Alfred Health

  • Lead the strategic and operational delivery of Alfred Health’s research agenda.
  • Oversee governance, research contracts, ethics, compliance and intellectual property.
  • Foster clinical and translational research collaborations across the Alfred Research Alliance.
  • Identify emerging opportunities for innovation, capability building and funding.
  • Support and mentor researchers, particularly early and mid-career leaders.
  • Represent Alfred Health on senior committees and in external forums to influence health research priorities.

About You

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • A medical specialist qualification in an area of expertise relevant to the Sub-Faculty and Alfred Health.
  • PhD or equivalent research doctorate in a relevant health or medical discipline.
  • Fellowship of a recognised medical college and registration (or eligibility) with AHPRA without conditions.
  • Senior academic standing with an outstanding record of research and teaching.
  • Proven leadership in a research-intensive academic or health setting.

  • Strategic and financial acumen, with the ability to lead complex organisations.
