The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a GP Lead Academic to provide academic leadership across the General Practice curriculum for medical students undertaking placements through Eastern Health Clinical School (EHCS). Working across Monash and Deakin University programs, this role drives the delivery, coordination and ongoing enhancement of high-quality General Practice education, ensuring students receive an engaging, contemporary and clinically relevant learning experience. As part of a collaborative academic leadership team, the position plays a central role in shaping future medical practitioners through teaching, curriculum development and clinical education.
The GP Lead Academic will oversee General Practice placements, assessment processes, Communication Skills teaching, and the Patient Teaching Associates (PTA) program. The role involves close collaboration with General Practice partners, universities, Eastern Health and key stakeholders to strengthen community-based medical education and support workforce initiatives linking hospital training with careers in General Practice. It also contributes to research, student supervision, quality improvement and the ongoing development of education programs across clinical settings.
We are seeking someone with a medical degree with current registration (or eligibility for registration) in Australia, Fellowship of the RACGP, ACRRM or an equivalent specialist qualification, together with a PhD and/or significant recognised experience in General Practice, medical education or a related discipline. Strong expertise in undergraduate medical education, curriculum development, clinical supervision, assessment and feedback is essential, along with demonstrated leadership, stakeholder engagement and the ability to coordinate activities across diverse settings. Experience in research, mentoring students and teaching staff, and fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment will also be highly regarded.
Join a collegial and highly engaged academic community and help shape the future of General Practice education while contributing to meaningful outcomes for students, healthcare services and the broader community. We look forward to receiving your application.
