About the Role

As a Donation Specialist Nursing Coordinator (DSNC), you will play a pivotal role in supporting organ and tissue donation across South Australia, providing expert clinical nursing care within a statewide hospital donation service managed by DonateLife SA. Working collaboratively with hospital teams, you will facilitate and coordinate the organ and tissue donation and retrieval process, ensuring compassionate, timely and best-practice care for patients, families and clinicians. You will be instrumental in implementing, documenting and reporting on the National Clinical Practice Improvement Program (CPIP), including the End-of-Life Follow Up Service, while promoting routine end-of-life notification processes from critical care settings.

In this influential role, you will act as a clinical expert and trusted resource, identifying potential organ donors and supporting individuals and families to make informed, enduring decisions about donation through access to the Australian Organ Donor Register. You will deliver education and support to medical, nursing and allied health staff, raising awareness and building capability across services within a collaborative, multidisciplinary framework. Working with a high degree of autonomy and professional judgement, you will align your practice with the strategic and operational priorities of DonateLife SA, adapting to evolving state and national requirements while making a meaningful difference to patients, families and the wider community.

About You

You are an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse who brings strong clinical judgement, leadership capability and a genuine commitment to supporting patients, families and multidisciplinary teams in complex and sensitive environments. You will bring:

  • Professional registration and clinical experience, including current (or eligibility for) registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, a practising certificate, and a minimum of three years’ post-registration experience, with demonstrated competence in organ donation nursing practice.

  • Strong leadership and change management capability, with proven skills in communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and problem solving, alongside experience supervising and developing students, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses.

  • Advanced clinical and organisational skills, including the ability to assess and interpret complex clinical data, coordinate and manage complex cases, prioritise competing demands, meet critical timeframes and perform effectively under pressure with minimal supervision.

  • A compassionate, resilient and collaborative approach, underpinned by empathy when supporting families during distress and bereavement, commitment to consumer engagement, and sound knowledge of relevant legislation, professional standards, safety and quality frameworks, and contemporary nursing practice.
