About the Role

As a Technical Officer – Anatomical Pathology (TGO 1), you will contribute to the effective and efficient operation of a busy Surgical Pathology laboratory, supporting the preparation and processing of histological specimens that underpin accurate patient diagnosis. Working across the Main Laboratory, Cut-Up Laboratory and Immunocytochemistry Laboratory on a rotational basis, you will assist with embedding, sectioning and staining of tissue, frozen sections, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and Fluorescence in situ Hybridisation (FISH) on paraffin-embedded tissue. You will also support clinical trials and research activities, while applying your technical expertise to more complex procedures as your skills develop.

This hands-on role also includes assisting with specimen cut-up, photography, quality control monitoring, equipment calibration and maintenance, and contributing to stock control and workload data management. You will help maintain accreditation standards by ensuring all processes align with approved manuals and regulatory requirements, actively participating in quality management, risk management and continuous improvement initiatives. About You

To succeed in this role, you will hold a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in an approved qualification and bring hands-on experience in histopathology. You are a motivated, detail-oriented professional with strong technical skills, capable of working independently or collaboratively in a busy laboratory environment.

  • Technically Skilled – Proficient in histological techniques, tissue processing and sectioning, with knowledge of immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and in-situ hybridisation.

  • Organised & Reliable – Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, prioritise tasks and solve problems effectively while maintaining accuracy and quality.

  • Team Player & Independent Worker – Able to work autonomously or collaboratively, using initiative and applying a broad knowledge base when required.

  • Quality & Systems Focused – Competent in using laboratory software and hardware, with understanding of histotechnology, ISO standards and NATA accreditation requirements.
