About the role

The Orthopaedic Clinical Research Fellow provides safe, effective paediatric orthopaedic care across inpatient, outpatient and theatre settings. The Orthopaedic Clinical Research Fellow supports surgery, on‑call services, and teaching and research, all while ensuring smooth clinical flow, accurate documentation and high‑quality surgical outcomes under consultant supervision.

As per the SMOEA 2022, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years or in line with your VISA end date if applicable.  Rotations following the initial 6 or 12-month Orthopaedic Clinical Research Fellow allocation will be determined in line with your training and SA Health's requirements.  This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

Key duties of the role

  • Provide appropriate pre-operative assessment of patients including outpatient clinics.
  • Participate in an emergency after hours on call roster.
  • Being responsive to patient and relative complaints.
  • Provide safe, effective and efficient surgical services
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely & effectively provide surgical services for children for general paediatric procedures.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.
  • Extensive clinical experience and competence in the practice of Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • Minimum 4 years satisfactory experience as an Intern/Resident Medical Officer/Registrar in a recognised teaching hospital and some experience as an Advanced Trainee.
  • Broad knowledge in the chosen field of orthopaedics.
  • Understanding both the rights and responsibilities of patients and their families.
