About the Role:
An opportunity is available within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) for an accomplished and forward-thinking leader to join the Medical Services Directorate as Director Medical Services – Medical Education and Workforce. This pivotal role will shape the future of medical education, training and workforce development across a dynamic and rapidly evolving health network.
As a senior member of the Directorate, you will lead the strategic direction, governance and delivery of medical education and training programs across NALHN. You will provide expert advice grounded in strong analytical and leadership capability, ensuring that education and workforce initiatives support high-quality clinical decision-making and align with National, SA Health and NALHN quality and safety standards. Working closely with senior leaders, you will develop a comprehensive and contemporary approach to medical workforce training that meets the needs of clinicians, consumers and the broader community.
Your leadership will extend across several key functions, including:
- Medical Services Directorate (Medical Education Unit and Trainee Medical Officer Unit)
- Accreditation of Training
- Medical Education Committee and Medical Wellbeing
- Further development of IMG and workforce strategies
- General Practice Integration Unit
To be eligible for this position, you must hold a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award. We also consider applications from those expected to complete the requirements for Specialist Registration with MBA in 2026.
The Total Indicative Remuneration figure is calculated taking into account base salary, leave loading and superannuation as well as managerial allowances, professional development or any other allowances where appropriate.

Medical Education, Governance and Service Excellence
- established academic track record and experience delivering innovative, high-quality contemporary health services
- significant experience developing, implementing and managing medical education, training and clinical governance frameworks
- strong capability in program evaluation, continuous improvement and preparation of high-quality reports, policies and plans
Analytical, Financial and Operational Acumen
- high-level analytical skills, including the ability to assess complex issues and implement effective, evidence-based solutions
- demonstrated experience applying financial management strategies and analytical processes to support organisational performance
- proven ability to lead structured change management initiatives in complex operational environments
System Knowledge and Sector Insight
- understanding of national and international health service reform and its implications for medical education and workforce development
- knowledge of State Government governance arrangements and the political, social and economic factors influencing human service planning and delivery
