About the role

As a Technical Officer you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of high-quality diagnostic laboratory services within a collaborative and patient-focused environment. Working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will apply your technical expertise and professional judgement to undertake a broad range of routine diagnostic laboratory tests, support operational activities, and contribute to continuous service improvement.

This role provides an opportunity to utilise your scientific and technical knowledge to troubleshoot issues, evaluate equipment, procedures and processes, and provide recommendations that support quality outcomes. You will also contribute to team leadership by supervising and training staff, assisting with minor technical projects, and ensuring laboratory services are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

About You

We're seeking a motivated and technically skilled professional with a recognised Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification (or equivalent) and experience working in a diagnostic laboratory environment. You will bring strong technical capability, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality laboratory services and customer care.

  • Qualified and experienced laboratory professional with a Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or equivalent), demonstrated experience in a relevant laboratory setting, and strong knowledge of diagnostic laboratory practices, quality systems and Work Health and Safety requirements.

  • Organised and adaptable, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, troubleshoot issues, and consistently deliver accurate work to a high standard under limited supervision.

  • Collaborative leader and communicator, capable of supervising and training staff, presenting information and reports, building positive stakeholder relationships, and working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Technically proficient and customer-focused, with strong problem-solving, numerical and computer skills, experience responding to client needs, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service. Multidiscipline experience within a 24/7 paediatric hospital laboratory environment will be highly regarded.
