La Trobe University is seeking an exceptional and visionary Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) to join our senior executive team. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future in development of the University’s undergraduate, post graduate and lifelong learning programs, drive excellence in education, innovative teaching and student experience, and elevate the university’s position in an increasingly dynamic global education landscape.

As Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), you will lead our academic strategy, ensuring we stay at the forefront of emerging trends and opportunities while delivering an exceptional educational experience for our students and industry partners alike.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of an academic strategy that aligns with institutional goals and anticipates emerging trends in technology and higher education.
  • Drive innovation across teaching, learning, and student support to ensure an outstanding educational experience that meets the needs of students, industry partners, and the broader community.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including governments, industry leaders, and international academic partners, to enhance the university's reputation and drive collaborative opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of inclusivity and academic excellence through the development of forward-thinking academic programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee the management, growth, and development of academic staff, providing leadership in performance management, career development, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Lead strategic initiatives to explore and capitalize on emerging opportunities, expanding the institution’s academic footprint and impact through innovation, technology, and global partnerships.
  • Lead the implementation of our Responsible AI Adoption Strategy with regard to learning, teaching, assessment and student support at La Trobe.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a lifelong learning strategy for La Trobe.
  • Ensure financial sustainability within the academic division, managing budgets and resources effectively while driving academic excellence and operational efficiency.
  • Champion the creation of an environment that supports student success, preparing them for future leadership roles and connecting them with industry to enhance employability outcomes.
  • Manage the implementation and continuous improvement of academic policies and programs, ensuring the institution's compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.

 Key Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant field, with a distinguished academic and leadership career.
  • Extensive experience in senior academic leadership, with a proven track record of leading and managing diverse teams and driving transformational change.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to manage budgets, allocate resources, and make data-driven decisions to ensure financial sustainability and academic growth.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, influence, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Expertise in identifying and capitalizing on emerging trends and opportunities in higher education, with a focus on technological innovation and staying ahead of industry shifts.
  • Proven leadership experience in digital transformation of higher education.
  • Proven experience in developing strategic partnerships with industry and academic institutions, contributing to research, funding, and collaboration.
  • A commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience for students, ensuring that academic offerings remain relevant, progressive, and globally competitive.
  • Strong financial literacy, with the ability to manage large academic portfolios and ensure the effective use of resources.
  • A track record of leading academic programs that prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
