If your graduate degree program requires you to complete a practicum, internship, or co-op that will not allow you to maintain 20 hours a week at the time of that practicum, internship, or co-op, you may become ineligible for the Graduate Camp Counselor position.


Job Summary: The UA ACTivate Graduate Camp Counselor manages the evening and night operations of a residential community.  Works with the Academic Innovation Program Manager to supervise student workers in the community. The UA ACTivate Graduate Camp Counselor reports directly to the Academic Innovation Program Manager. The Graduate Camp Counselor must agree to be employed during both UA ACTivate camps in June and July. This job demands considerable time and energy. Night and weekend hours will be required throughout both camps’ duration.

  • Directly supervises 5-9 Student Workers/Resident Advisors
  • Conducts regular supervisory meetings, with the Academic Innovation Program Manager, to provide mentoring, motivation, and feedback to staff
  • Participates in UA ACTivate staff training to be held June 11-12, 2026, and July 10, 2026
  • Supports the UA ACTivate as a student conduct hearing officer for the UA ACTivate community
  • Meets with students who have violated the community living standards to provide educational interventions and referrals
  • Remains on-call, via phone, from 10pm to 6am daily to respond to issues, concerns, or emergencies as they arise
  • Monitors maintenance and facility issues, completes administrative paperwork, and compiles reports
  • Facilitates health and safety inspections and building occupancy verification processes with student workers
  • Attends daily debriefing meetings with the Academic Innovation Program Manager
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications: Must live in the bedspace provided within UA ACTivate summer housing. Must be a current or incoming graduate student fully admitted to the UA Graduate School and enrolled in a degree-seeking program. Applicants must be in good academic standing and be enrolled in a minimum of 4.5 on-campus graduate hours for fall and/or spring semesters. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field required. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier. 

Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.

Preferred Qualifications: Students majoring in Secondary Education, Higher Education Administration, Social Work, or related programs will be given priority consideration. Ability to interact and communicate with a wide range of people, work cooperatively on a team, identify and respond to the needs of a student population, maintain confidentiality, supervise student staff, and confront policy violations in an objective and consistent manner.


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
