The Stewardship Intern will gain hands-on experience in trail maintenance and outdoor recreation by helping to plan, promote, and lead volunteer trail work events and environmental education hikes across Florida. The intern will work closely with FTA staff and volunteer chapter leaders to build community, inspire trail stewardship, and expand FTA’s impact among young adults. |

The Outreach Intern will lead two major initiatives aimed at increasing public engagement, accessibility, and awareness of the Florida Trail. Through storytelling, mapping, and creative outreach, the intern will help users discover new ways to explore the trail and connect with Florida’s natural spaces. The intern will revive FTA’s Grab-and-Go Day Hike program by creating updated guides, maps, and promotional materials for easy-access hikes, and launch an interactive challenge campaign. They will also research, write, and promote a monthly blog series that uplifts diverse trail users, educates the public and shares practical insights about hiking and protecting the FNST. |

This is a grant funded position that focuses on research and extension related to Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce phosphorus loads in the Everglades Agricultural Area farms in south Florida. The objective of this research is to determine differences in performance in select farms in the EAA basins by evaluating the impact of soil chemistry and historical land use on P concentration and loads on these farms. The project includes advanced statistical tools and modelling to evaluate the influence of soil properties, historical and current land use, and environmental conditions on water quality in select farms in the EAA. |

This position will play a central role in developing and deploying the foundational technical components that enable the geospatial data framework of the FLDT, supporting data-driven research and decision-making across infrastructure, environmental, and societal domains. The engineer will design and implement robust ETL (extract, transform, load) workflows to harmonize diverse datasets—spanning multiple spatial and temporal scales—into a unified cloud-based data architecture. A critical aspect of this role is ensuring the seamless integration of large-scale spatial datasets and analytical pipelines within UF’s high-performance computing environment, HiPerGator, which underpins the scalability and computational performance of the entire FLDT system. |
