The main focus of the position will be to assist with detailed experiments involving mouse models of human disease in collaboration with other team members and the Principal Investigator.
The candidate will perform preclinical experiments to test candidate therapeutic strategies to improve neurological diseases with a focus on the use of mouse models. This position will study molecular aspects of Repeat Associated Non-ATG (RAN) translation, RNA gain-of-function and protein gain-of-function disease mechanisms using mouse and cell culture models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs), myotonic dystrophy (DM) types 1 and 2, and Huntington’s disease (HD). This position will also include overseeing the organization, maintenance, and breeding of mice. This position will perform genotyping experiments using established laboratory techniques and enter the resulting data into a lab database. This person will be responsible for independently directing and implementing the design, construction, and testing of new laboratory protocols and projects. Design and perform molecular and cell biology experiments. General laboratory maintenance: including ordering, routine record keeping, and supervising compliance with hazardous waste and biological safety requirements. This individual will supervise and train multiple technicians and graduate assistants. It is expected that the person in this position will work closely with the PI, senior research staff, and the lab manager, but will be able to perform duties and experiments with limited supervision from the PI and is considered an expert in their field. |
