The purpose of this position is to support students in credentialing programs both at the Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP) and at Seaver College. The Certification and Credentialing Manager will perform a broad range of certification functions that include reviewing, analyzing, evaluating, and processing applications for public school teaching credentials, certificates, intern numbers, and permits. S/he will provide a wide variety of administrative support to staff, faculty, and serve as a campus resource for students on matters regarding State credential requirements. The position serves as a campus resource and provides assistance, support, and guidance to students as they prepare to be leaders in our schools and our communities.

Duties

  • Inform teacher candidates of state-required credentialing documents and exams, collect documents as requirements are completed by candidates, and maintain a database of teacher preparation candidates' progression through the Teacher Preparation Program (TPP). Respond to credentialing inquiries of graduates as needed.
  • Work with candidates, CTC, and the University Registrar to determine whether candidates have taken the correct courses and met the appropriate standards and requirements for credential recommendations. Verify completion of requirements and certify applicants for completion of the program and recommendation to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
  • Serve as edTPA specialist which includes visiting classes to provide assistance with an overview of edTPA, answer questions, support edTPA upload, and oversee edTPA resubmissions as necessary.
  • Advise leadership of policies impacting course or program level changes.
  • Keep track of CTC accreditation deadlines while collecting and analyzing data and writing CTC reports.
  • Remain current on federal and state laws, regulations, and policies relating to licensing and credentialing by attending relevant policymaker meetings. Communicate relevant policy changes to administration, faculty, and students.
  • Evaluate and validate appropriate coursework pertaining to program certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree. Must have experience recommending candidates for credentials and working with teacher preparation programs. Must have knowledge of federal and state laws regarding state certifications and experience working with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). One year of relevant experience. Knowledge of contract agreements. Knowledge of CTC mandates and regulations governing teacher credentialing. Organizational, clerical, and administrative skills with high degree of accuracy. Flexibility, receptivity to change, and ability to multi-task. Verbal and written communication skills with ability to explain complex requirements in clear, concise terms. Technological aptitude, analytical skills, and ability to acquire new skills quickly. Self-motivation and ability to work independently. Professionalism and ability to work with faculty, staff, CTC personnel, and students in a professional and effective manner. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, friendliness, poise, and firmness. Proficiency in English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Experience Microsoft Office; Adobe Acrobat X Pro; Peoplesoft; Google Suite.

Preferred: Master's degree, 3 years of relevant experience, some experience in a K-12 setting, and a teaching credential. Existing knowledge of edTPA. Knowledge of district organization, operations, policies, and objectives.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $28.12 - $31.25 per hour

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
