The Recruitment and Employment Specialist serves as a Human Resources ambassador to University supervisors regarding all details of the staff employment cycle, including recruitment of new staff and management of transfers, promotions, and other incremental employment changes. This position will collaborate with Human Resources Operations Coordinators, Business Partners, and liaisons to support hiring managers in recruiting and onboarding talented colleagues to further Pepperdine’s mission.

The successful candidate will deliver high-touch customer service to the Pepperdine community while managing a high volume of detailed requests requiring strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, reflecting the University's mission and values in all interactions.

Duties

  • Provide superior customer service to hiring managers engaged in the staff recruitment process, assisting them with position descriptions, job postings, advertisements, applicant communications, offers of employment, etc.
  • Represent Pepperdine University as an employer by attending job fairs, sending recruiting materials, and engaging with student organizations. Implement strategic recruitment efforts to expand and diversify applicant pools. Provide superior customer service to applicants, creating goodwill for the University throughout the process.
  • Process incremental staff changes and reorganizations, including pay increases, title changes, promotions, and transfers.
  • Manage Pepperdine's job website the applicant experience and associated resources for prospective employees. Develop recruitment strategies for acquiring new talent in partnership with Human Resources and departmental leadership.
  • Guide hiring managers through completion of hire requests for temporary and short-term restricted positions. Track upcoming end dates for new and restricted and temporary employees, communicating with hiring managers to extend or terminate assignments.
  • Serve as the primary superuser of the University's applicant tracking system, and as system administrator of the University's HRIS, background check, and Form I-9 management systems. Perform routine audits and manage restricted and confidential data appropriately.
  • Assist with recruitment for the University's temporary pool. Review and vet applicants. Make recommendations to hiring managers based on hiring managers' needs and temporary pool members' qualifications.
  • Assist with employment-related payroll procedures, including processing of manual time sheets, ensuring proper completion of retroactive payment forms, and ensuring integrity of all employee job data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree. Exceptional written and oral communication skills, strong customer service and interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, ability to use discretion when handling sensitive and confidential issues, ability to organize and prioritize changing workload, must dress professionally, supportive of the Christian mission, ability to integrate faith with HR practice. Proficient with MS Word and Excel, previous database system experience.

Preferred: Master's degree. 2-3 years' experience in human resources, higher education, or a related field. Knowledge of California wage and hour laws, previous experience in employment processing, previous experience in higher education, previous experience with Pepperdine University. Experience with PeopleSoft HCM, Kronos, HireRight, FormI-9 Compliance; advanced MS Word and MS Excel skills.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $24.03 - $26.44 per hour 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
