Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Director of Student Engagement.In cooperation with other Student Affairs staff members and reporting directly to the Director of Student Engagement, the Assistant Director shares an awareness of and concern for all aspects of student academic, residential, and co-curricular life. In particular, the Assistant Director of Student Engagement will support the ongoing work of student organization finance management and will serve as the department’s designee for traditional campus events* (e.g., Orientation/Welcome Week, Involvement Fair, Homecoming, Family Weekend, Late Night Bites, etc.). The Assistant Director of Student Engagement is a ten (10) month position.  The work of the Assistant Director of Student Engagement includes regular evening and weekend responsibilities.

The scope of the Assistant Director’s responsibilities includes:

  • Advise the Business & Finance Committee (B.F.C) of Student Council.
  • Coordinate financial processes for registered student organizations.
  • Orientation/Welcome Week evening social programming.
  • Homecoming Weekend programming.
  • Family Weekend programming.
  • Weaver Wednesday program management.
  • Late Night Bites.
  • Advising Senior Class Committee.
  • Supervising General Sound Techs.
  • Student organization support.
  • Support student leadership development and recognition.
  • Co-supervision of student intern staff.


  • Support the Business and Finance Committee (BFC) of Student Council.
    • Oversee daily committee operations including familiarity with the Student Council bylaws and the Student Organization handbook policies.
    • Supervise the Vice President of BFC in weekly office hours.
    • Regularly prepare reports on student activity fee expenditures.
    • Review and approve all expenditures of the student activity fee, approximately $500,000.
    • Ensure financial expenditures are updated and reports are accessible through the student organization management platform.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for student requests for funding for programming and events (student activity fee money and endowed funds such as the Kenyon College Community Development Fund).
  • Track gifts and donations for student organizations.


  • Plan, implement, execute, and assess orientation and Welcome Week social programming at the start of the fall semester.
  • Coordinate the fall and spring involvement fairs composed of student organizations, departments/offices, and community partners.
  • In close collaboration with  Alumni and Parent Engagement and Athletics, coordinate student-centered programming for Homecoming and Family Weekend programming engaging students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.
  • Collaborate with AVI Dining to solicit campus volunteers and host the annual Late Night Bites prior to final exams each semester.
  • Plan and execute additional both small and  large-scale programming on behalf of the Office of Student Engagement. 
  • Collaborate with the Office of Campus Events and other departments as requested to support student programming and participation in campus traditions.


  • Advise the Senior Class Committee of Student Council by providing assistance in regular operations and large, traditional campus programming such as Senior Soiree, Fandango, and Senior Week.
  • Hire, train and supervise the General Sound Tech student employment position to assist with student organization program support.


  • Complete strategic planning, evaluation, and assessment for all areas of responsibility. 
  • Partner with campus offices as appropriate, such as the Offices of Student Rights and Responsibilities, Residential Life, Alumni and Parent Engagement, Community Partnerships, Athletics, and Academic Affairs.
  • Participate in activities, meetings, and events as a member of the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Serve on campus committees as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Work is generally performed in an office environment but may also require being able to navigate between and within campus facilities including up and down stairs and being outside in various weather conditions.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet campus requirements to drive campus vehicles.  Ability to lift and carry 20 lbs. regularly and move tables, chairs, and other furniture.  Evening and weekend work is occasionally required.    


Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field preferred, but not mandatory.  Experience working with student activities, especially student organization financial management platforms, is preferred.  Committed to and familiar with the values and needs of a small, private, residential liberal arts college.  Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and an understanding of the unique intersections of identity and the student experience. Strong sense of organizational and administrative skills.  Effective verbal and written communication skills.  Demonstrated interest in working with and mentoring college students.   



Orientation/Welcome Week: Collaborate with the Office of First Year Experience, Residential Life, and Student Engagement colleagues to plan robust and engaging social-based, evening programming during orientation and the first week of classes.

Homecoming Weekend: Partner with the Department of Athletics and the Alumni and Parent Engagement to sponsor, plan, and staff student-centered events during fall homecoming weekend.

Weaver Wednesday: Coordinate with registered student organizations to co-sponsor the department initiative “Weaver Wednesday”, offered weekly on Wednesdays as a late night alcohol free alternative program for students. 

Family Weekend: Partner with the Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement to sponsor, host, promote, and staff student and family-friendly events; coordinate with program coordinators on the annual acapella student showcase and promote other student organization-sponsored events. 

Late Night Bites: Partner with dining services to host a late night breakfast event in Peirce Dining Hall; solicit faculty and staff volunteers, plan, and promote the event.
