Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of First Year Experience Program Coordinator.
Be a part of building the First-Year Experience program at Kenyon as the First Year Experience Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator will assist with Student and Family Summer Connection programming, the coordination of Fall Orientation, and the implementation of Kenyon’s new Pre-Orientation initiative. They will provide coordination for student staff selection and support the director in the execution and assessment of Orientation and First-Year Experience programming while working with partners from across the College. Reporting to the Director of the First-Year Experience, the Program Coordinator will assist the FYE Team in building a comprehensive College-wide First-Year Experience Program for new and transfer students. Bachelor’s degree and one to two years of experience in orientation, student retention, first-year, or related programs preferred. This is a limited one-year appointment, with benefits, with potential for extension.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Spring and Summer Connection Activities for Early and Regular Decision Students and Parents
- Assist in coordinating virtual Summer Student Welcome Sessions.
- Collaborate with the Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement and campus partners to assist in coordinating the virtual information and connection sessions for Parents.
Communication and Social Media Connection
- Coordinate a robust social media presence that continues throughout the summer and first semester.
- Develop a content creation and posting calendar for the Summer and Fall.
- Create content for FYE Social Media.
- Supervise and coordinate the FYE Interns developing content.
Student Staffing
- Coordinate Orientation Team Staff Selection.
- Assist in the implementation of an Ongoing Orientation Leader cohort to ensure there is a mechanism for regular contact and support for first-year students by an FYE student team member throughout the first semester.
- Assist in developing and implementing Fall Orientation Leader Training, including a Spring Training
Fall Orientation and Orientation Connection Experience (Pre-Orientation) Coordination
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Fall Orientation Program.
- Assist in the support and coordination of a set of Pilot Pre-Orientation programs that can accommodate all members of the first-year class and transfer students designed to engage and connect students to each other and Kenyon.
- Coordinate with campus partners in the implementation of regular connections throughout the first semester between the host department and student participants.
First-Year Experience Programming
- Collaborate with the Director to help establish, implement, and staff a set of programs to assist new students in adjusting to the campus and engaging in campus life, including a Friday Night Programming series for the first 4 weeks of classes.
Kenyon Transition Programming
- Collaborate with Campus Partners to publicize and promote awareness for the Sophomore Success Series.
FYE Office Responsibilities
- Monitor the FYE Inbox, Phone line, and Instagram Direct Messages.
- Ensure the FYE website is updated.
- Book rooms, track and order supplies for FYE programs.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is generally performed in an office environment but may also require being able to navigate between and within campus facilities including up and down stairs and being outside in various weather conditions. Valid driver’s license and meet campus requirements to drive campus vehicles. Ability to lift and carry 20 lbs. regularly and move tables, chairs, and other furniture. Evening and weekend work is frequent and required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree and one to two years of experience in orientation, student retention, first-year or related programs preferred. Committed to and familiar with the values and needs of a small, private, liberal arts college. Sensitivity and commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Strong sense of organizational and administrative skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Excellent judgment. Demonstrated interest in working with and mentoring college students.
