Department Summary
The Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL) is one of the largest research centers at the University of Oregon and is part of the College of Education (COE). The COE is one of the highest-ranking graduate schools of education in the country. In the last decade, CTL has contributed significantly to this ranking due to its largely successful research enterprise.
CTL's mission is to conduct, translate, and disseminate research that focuses on the solutions and resolutions to serious but practical problems in school systems. CTL’s current research focuses on the rigorous evaluation of instructional strategies and materials in the teaching and assessment of reading and mathematics skills in K-8. CTL’s current portfolio of research projects is available on the CTL website (http://ctl.uoregon.edu/research/projects).
CTL also actively develops instructional programs and educational technology games to enhance student learning across a range of academic subjects. We disseminate rigorously researched products through the CTL Marketplace (https://ctlmarketplace.uoregon.edu/).
Position Summary
The Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL) at the University of Oregon is seeking qualified applicants for its open pro tem research assistant and research associate pool. Positions are limited duration appointments, potentially renewable for up to three years.
CTL's research assistants work as members of a research team under the direct supervision of other faculty researchers. Research Assistants contribute in many ways to the research project by conducting research, outreach and/or external engagement, proposal development, and supervision and/or mentoring.
Research associates assist in carrying out a particular research agenda. Research associates contribute in many ways to the research project including conducting research and managing grants. The research associate leads and/or collaborates in research, demonstration, outreach and technical assistance projects within CTL. Research associates participate on research teams and perform independent roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge evaluation of instructional strategies and materials in the teaching and assessment of reading and mathematics skills in K-8. The work performed in these positions will be predominantly intellectual and require consistent use of discretion and judgment.
Potential areas of research include: research; program development; statistical analyses related to all phases of preparation of scientific papers, presentations, development and training, grant applications; staff professional development at project level; and off-site research activities with a variety of populations including persons with identified developmental disabilities.
Some positions may require bilingual written and oral fluency.
Some positions may include overnight travel and/or extensive previous experience in a similar job role.
Minimum Requirements
Research Assistant Classification:
• Bachelor's or master's degree in Education or a related area.
• Evidence of expertise in areas required for program, grant, or contract (e.g., writing reports for funders, assisting in writing grant applications)
Research Associate Classification:
• Doctoral degree in Education, Special Education, Educational Psychology, Educational Administration or related area.
• Evidence of expertise in areas required for program, grant, or contract (e.g., supervision of staff, grant writing, and management)
• Experience in research activities required for the position (e.g., data collection, research design

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience providing training and technical assistance.
• Experience with initiating and completing tasks independently according to timelines.
• Experience communicating effectively and problem-solving with research and project staff and participants of diverse racial, cultural, linguistic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Experience in data collection, observations, and management.
• Experience coordinating, managing timelines, and scheduling across multiple tasks, projects, and individuals.
• Experience in developing and writing professional materials (e.g., training and resource guides, reports to funders, fact sheets).
• Experience providing professional presentations at local, state and national conferences.
• Strong training presence and experience in delivering training in a variety of contexts.
• Experience with computer programs including project management tools (e.g., software, databases, and email).
